The Commodore’s Reception
This is our season-opener, sponsored by the Commodore. In our annual mailing, the Commodore invites Members and their guests to a cocktail reception held at the Club. Here, Members have the opportunity to mingle, and to meet all the staff and volunteers who will contribute to the enjoyment of the Club and its many activities through the season. The Commodore addresses the group to outline activities that have taken place over the winter, plans for the future and events for the coming summer.
Each Thursday night, the Club’s chef and staff offer Members and their guests a fine dining experience in the Club’s lounge, which can accommodate seated tables of eight. Superb service, a choice of delicious entrées, creative side dishes, mouth-watering desserts and great company make these evenings memorable for everyone. All Members and their guests are welcome, so go ahead and invite a crowd!
Reservations are required each Wednesday by 2:00pm. Due to menu planning and food ordering lead times, drop-ins cannot be accepted.
On Friday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00, Members and their friends and family gather on the Club’s decks overlooking the lake for refreshments and complimentary hors d’oeuvre. Many choose to stay on for a delicious buffet barbecue prepared by the Club’s chef. For those arriving from the city, it’s a great way to kick off the weekend; and for those already at the Lake, it’s an opportunity to renew friendships or share news of the week’s events – all in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.
Overwater Golf Classic
Forget sand traps: as far as we know, this is the only golf game in the world played entirely over water! The course is laid out along a series of our Members’ island camps. Players go by boat from “hole” to “hole” where their golfing skills are tested in ways that only a lake environment can offer. From long distance, island-to-island shots, to precision shots into floating boats, this hilarious fundraiser is a highlight of the August long weekend.
On a serious note: the hospitality and refreshments offered along the course make a “Designated Driver” essential for each boat in this event.
Annual Fish Fry Club Dinner
One of our most popular events, the Fish Fry Dinner fills our Clubhouse and outer decks with Members and their families and guests. All enjoy a traditional lake meal of crispy pan-fried Pickerel fillets, complemented with a variety of salads and other well-known “shore lunch” dishes. This casual get-together is one of the highlights of the summer at RLWYC, and has been voted “No.1” by the junior set.
Yacht Club Dance
This semi-formal affair brings the boating crowd to the dance floor of RLWYC. At least as popular as the Fish Fry (and somewhat noisier!), it offers a fine buffet dinner, followed by a live band and dancing till the wee hours. A great occasion to dine, dance and catch up with old acquaintances from near and far. Always held on the August long weekend, this event is a perennial sellout, so reserve your tickets early.
This is a ladies-only social event that has raised funds for Saakaate House Women’s Shelter. In past years it has been an elegant luncheon; this year, we are planning a mid-afternoon event, possibly leading to cocktails – less formal, but just as much fun and still in a good cause!
Who says the ladies have all the fun! Similar in form and function to the Ladies’ Luncheon; however we are less sure about the dessert and flowers. Nonetheless, always a great get-together for the boys.
Summer Wind Up
The last blast of the season. This is a fun, casual affair and great value, as the chef empties the Club’s larder and gives his creative skills a final flourish. Chances to reminisce, say goodbye and look forward to the next season.
